Duskfade Characters: Zirian, Cuckoo, Despair & the Clockmakers

The Core Cast

Zirian — the protagonist

Zirian is a workshop apprentice and the game’s sole playable character. His weapon is the Minutero — a blade fashioned from a clock hand — and his mission drives the whole story: save his sister from the claws of Despair by restoring the fabric of time. Over the campaign his kit grows from basic strikes into the full movement set (jump, dash, grapple, glide) that defines the game’s platforming.

Cuckoo — the companion

A mechanical cuckoo-bird companion who travels with Zirian. Cuckoo is both a gameplay helper and a story presence — enough of one that “duskfade cuckoo” is a common player search on its own.

Zirian’s sister

The person the whole quest is for — held by Despair. The developers keep her story beats unspoiled in official material, and so do we; what matters going in is that the game’s much-praised emotional core (loss, family, grief — themes reviewers consistently highlight) runs through her arc.

Despair — the antagonist

Despair is the force holding Zirian’s sister and the game’s final challenge, confronted at the Clock Tower in Tick Town. The name is literal: the story treats Despair as grief embodied, which is why the finale lands harder than typical platformer villains. See the Boss Guide for the encounter itself.

The Master Clockmakers

The legendary figures who shaped the game’s worlds — each realm reflects its maker. Uncovering their secrets is the campaign’s running mystery, and the endgame achievement Master XII’s secret (1.7% of players) suggests one Clockmaker in particular rewards the curious.
